Darcy is taking the plunge
DARCY
Miss Elizabeth, I've made such a mess of things. I separated your sister from my best friend when that was clearly a mistake. I failed to warn you about Wickham when he was still a danger. And I fell hopelessly in love with you when I don't deserve someone so wonderful.
BINGLEY
Darcy, did you say something?
DARCY
Oh, um, no. I was just practicing.
BINGLEY
I am the happiest man alive. Let's drink a toast to my good fortune.
DARCY
Yes, let's.
BINGLEY
You're in a rather sombre mood, though.
DARCY
Yes, I know. But I am glad for you, my friend. If either of us has ever deserved to be this happy, it is certainly you.
BINGLEY
Well, Darcy, I was first with my proposal, so I win our little wager, not that I intend to collect. Is there any way I can help out with Miss Elizabeth?
DARCY
Well...
BINGLEY
I took your advice, you know. Once Jane and I were alone in the parlour, I just blurted it out. She laughed a bit at my discomfort but then she said yes and I almost fainted.
DARCY
Bingley, you are truly an heroic figure.
BINGLEY
Well, you'll have to try it out yourself now. It really is so simple. Just like you said it would be.
DARCY
Yes, I think I do have a chance now. Something my aunt said the other day.
BINGLEY
Your aunt? Darcy, you could've proposed to Elizabeth half a year ago and she would've said yes. I'm sure she's always known what a fine fellow you are.
DARCY
Are you in the mood for a ride to Longbourn?
BINGLEY
Always!
